Fill it once. Then just watch it.

You Fill It With Water
The cylinder is empty when it arrives and takes about a minute at the sink to fill. Once the lid is sealed, the pump in the base makes a slow current and the jellyfish lift, turn and sink through the whole height of the water with their tentacles trailing behind them.

Seven Colours, One After Another
Red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and violet, fading one into the next on their own. Press the switch again and it holds on whichever colour is showing, so it can be a slow cycle across a room or one flat colour beside you.

Everything Is On The Base
One small switch on the front of the base does on, off and colour — there is no remote, so everything happens where you put your hand. Behind it is the socket for the USB cable, and above it the lid screws down onto a silicone seal.

The Pump Is The Quiet Part
It moves water rather than air, so there is no fan note and nothing to hear from across the room. The only thing the lamp actually does out loud is throw colour onto the wall behind it.

Water, light and motion. Nothing to listen to.

How we compare.
Where a tank of moving water is different from a lamp that only changes colour.
Frequently asked
questions.
The questions people actually ask before buying one.
Yes, and this is the thing to know before you order. It ships dry: you unscrew the lid, fill the cylinder with ordinary tap water, drop the jellyfish in and screw it back down onto its silicone seal. It takes about a minute, and nothing moves until you do it.
No. Everything is done with the one switch on the front of the base — on, off, and stopping the colour cycle on the colour you want. If you had it in mind to change it from across the room, this is not the lamp for that.
Two ways. The USB cable is in the box, so it will run off a wall plug, a laptop or a power bank. It also takes batteries, which are not included — worth buying at the same time, because that is what lets you put it somewhere with no socket.
They are synthetic and translucent, bell-shaped with long trailing tentacles, and they come in the box. They lift straight out whenever you want to empty or rinse the tank.
Yes. Left alone it fades through all seven. Press the switch when it reaches the one you want and it stops there and stays until you change it.
Quiet enough that you notice the light and not the lamp. It is a water pump, not a fan, so there is no whirring note to it — from a metre away there is effectively nothing to hear.
The 11 inch is 11 inches tall and 3.9 inches across and suits a desk, a bedside table or a narrow shelf. The 15 inch is the same tank and base carried four inches higher, which reads better on a mantelpiece or anywhere you are looking up at it.
